Cookie Policy
What we set, and what you can switch off.
Two cookies keep the site working, and a chat with our assistant keeps one note in your browser tab while it lasts. The rest are measurement, they are off until you say otherwise, and you can change your mind on this page at any time.
The short version
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations we may only set one without asking if the site genuinely cannot work without it. Everything else — counting visits, recording how a page is used — needs your permission first, and permission you have not given is not permission. So none of it loads until you choose.
We do not sell anything we collect, we do not use cookies to advertise to you, and refusing them changes nothing about the site you get.
Change or withdraw your choice whenever you like — it takes one click, the same as giving it did.
Strictly necessary
Needed for the site to work. These are set whatever you choose here, which the law allows because without them the thing you asked for cannot be delivered.
ww-cookie-consentWight WasteKept for 6 monthsRemembers your cookie choice, so you are not asked again on every page.
ww-admin-tokenWight WasteKept for 7 daysSigns in a member of Wight Waste staff to the admin area. Never set for customers.
ww-chatWight WasteKept for Until you close the tabKeeps a chat with our assistant going as you move between pages. Kept in your browser tab rather than as a cookie, and only set if you start a chat.
Analytics
Counts visits and shows which pages and services people actually look at, so we know what is worth writing more about.
_gaGoogle AnalyticsKept for 2 yearsTells one returning browser from another.
_ga_H0DS55R06RGoogle AnalyticsKept for 2 yearsKeeps track of the current visit.
Session recording
Records how pages are used — clicks, scrolling and mouse movement — and replays it as heatmaps and session recordings, so we can see where a page is confusing. Typing in forms is masked by Clarity and is not recorded.
_clckMicrosoft ClarityKept for 1 yearKeeps one anonymous ID for your browser across visits.
_clskMicrosoft ClarityKept for 1 dayJoins the pages you view into a single recording.
CLID, MUIDMicrosoftKept for 1 yearSet by Microsoft on their own clarity.ms domain to recognise the browser. Because they are not ours, refusing here stops them being set but we cannot delete copies already on your device — your browser settings can.
Blocking cookies yourself
Every browser can block or delete cookies from its own settings, and that overrides anything chosen here. It is also the way to clear the cookies Microsoft sets on their own clarity.ms domain, which no script on this site is allowed to touch. Blocking everything will sign you out of the admin area and make the banner reappear on each visit, because the record of your choice is itself a cookie.
Asking us about it
Email [email protected] with anything you want to know about what we hold. If you think we have handled it badly you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
