How we use your details.

What we keep when you ring, chat, ask for a quote or book, why we keep it, and for how long.

Who we are

Wight Waste is a waste clearance business on the Isle of Wight, owned and run by Luke. He is responsible for your details, and you can reach him at [email protected].

What we collect, and why

Your name, phone number, email address, address and postcode, photos you send of the waste, and what you tell us — on the phone, in the chat on this site, or in a form. We use them to answer your enquiry, quote, book and carry out the work, and to decide which call-backs to make first.

If Luke cannot answer, calls and website chats are answered by an AI assistant, which passes your details to him. Calls may be recorded, and you are told at the start when they are. For a job we also keep what the law requires: the waste transfer note, including its signature, and payment records. Card details go to our payment processor and never reach us.

You do not have to give us anything, but we cannot quote or book a job without a way to reach you.

Our lawful basis

Quoting, booking and doing the work: to enter into or carry out a contract with you. Recording calls, the AI assistant, keeping a record of enquiries and prioritising call-backs: our legitimate interest in not losing enquiries and knowing what we told people. Waste transfer notes and accounts: a legal obligation.

Who else handles it

Only the providers we need to run the business: our telephone and text-messaging provider, speech-to-text and AI providers, our email provider, a notification service that alerts us to new enquiries and bookings, our payment processor, our waste documentation provider, a link-shortening service for review requests, an error-monitoring service that tells us when the website breaks, and our website host and storage. We do not sell your details or use them for marketing. Some of these providers are based outside the UK; where they are, the transfer is covered by the UK's approved safeguards, such as the International Data Transfer Addendum.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, stop using it, limit how we use it, or give it to you in a form you can take elsewhere. Email [email protected] and we will reply within a month. We may have to keep job and payment records for as long as the law requires. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your details, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
